Why Counselling?

Everybody needs to deal with personal issues in their life. This could be anxiety and depression or panic attacks and social phobias or coming to terms with a disability or a loss.  It can often be difficult to discuss personal problems with those close to us [and often they can be part of the problem.

Counselling can give you a safe and friendly space to talk about these issues with a professional; someone who is not judging you.  In a counselling session, we can discuss the way you feel about your problems which can help you to move forward and put the problem behind you. A trained professional by your side can help you to understand and deal with your thinking, your emotions and your behaviours.

If you feel overwhelmed and would like to talk to a counsellor about your problem I would like to hear from you. Please contact us for a chat to see how counselling can benefit you.

“Counselling Northumberland can help”

What do you know about counselling?

  • It can be lots of things; a private space to talk or ‘vent your spleen’ as some people say.
  • Somewhere where you can give an account of your distress, your symptoms, talk about your hopes and fears.
  • Somewhere where you know you can’t be judged, there’s enough of that in the world.
  • Society asks a lot of us these days; busy working lives, busy family lives with plenty of people telling us what we ‘should’ or ‘shouldn’t’ be doing. In the therapeutic world we try to strike those words out of the dictionary-they’re not helpful.
  • What we do is encourage you to be yourself; talk about what’s important to you.
  • Discuss your problems openly and without fear.
  • Sometimes we talk about how to respectfully pick up the pieces and start again; most of what’s going on with the outside is a reflection of what’s going on with the inside; make sense?
  • Counselling can be short-term or longer-term. It can be in-depth or not so; that depends on you and what you need [not a therapist’s agenda.]
  • Counselling is about boundary control.
  • Making time and space for yourself.
  • Just 50 minutes of you time.
  • A warm welcome.
  • Respectful challenging.
  • Learning to understand you and what it is you need and want and most importantly;
  • Learning to be ok with yourself.
